Meet Peter – the dog who will leave a smile on your face and a permanent spot in your heart. In order to really understand how special Peter is, his rescue owner, Lindsey, says we have to start at the beginning of his rescue story.

“Peter was found deep in the woods in Alabama by some high schoolers and his condition was grim. Near death, the kids carried him out of the forest and brought him to the shelter. Peter had no fur on his body. His teeth had been filed down and his ears were clipped. Despite a seemingly endless list of health issues, there was soul in his surgically-repaired eyes. Everyone knew this dog would make a full recovery and lead a great life!”

Peter lived with a woman named Tina who nursed him back to health before he made his way to Minnesota and into the care of Alex and Spot’s Last Stop Canine Rescue (SLS). Meanwhile, Lindsey’s dog Mia had passed and they’d been searching for a few months for our next dog. Lindsey said, “In browsing the SLS’s site, we saw a few dogs, but they were not the right fit. Then we saw Peter, and just like with their other SLS rescue, Toula, we knew.”

The irony of the story is that Casey, the founder of SLS, had actually sent Lindsey a message five weeks before they saw Peter on the website and suggested that he become their next family member. They had not seen the message, but by some miracle, Peter was still available for adoption.

Peter is a special and memorable fellow. While some of his fur has grown back, he regulates his body temperature by wearing clothes every day and pajamas every night. No joke—his wardrobe is much larger than Lindsey’s! Peter enjoys video chats with Tina, his foster mom in Alabama. Recently, Peter’s family went to Alabama to meet Tina and gift her with money they had raised to help rescue more dogs just like Peter.
